Moments of Happiness: BUDDIES COFFEE ROASTERS and adidas para Bad Bunny

In a tumultuous world, community is vital because it provides that essential foundation of support and fosters resilience in the face of shared challenges. For entrepreneur and Puerto Rican native Rachel Nieves, community is at the heart of BUDDIES COFFEE ROASTERS, a small cafe in Brooklyn founded by Nieves and pro skateboarder Taylor Nawrocki.

Founded in 2020, Nieves was determined to authentically represent her Puerto Rican heritage in the coffee community. Fueled by a desire to create a welcoming space and offer quality, crafted drinks, BUDDIES swiftly rose to success as a 5-star favorite. Customers from near and far come to try their signature drink: the Coquito Latte. Coquito, a Christmas staple in Puerto Rico, consists of rum, coconut cream, condensed milk, and spices like cinnamon and clove. Blending Nieve’s family recipe with fresh espresso, BUDDIES offers this seasonal favorite year-round.

BUDDIES has gained a considerable amount of attention for their unique and original perspective reflected in their atmosphere and menu. Unfortunately, Nieves and Nawrocki are no strangers to the challenges posed by larger companies on small businesses. While large chains may offer convenience and scale, they often struggle to replicate the personalized touch and unique charm that a small, local business cultivates. Such is the case with BUDDIES. Nieves effectively weaves her personal stories through the cafe, inviting genuine interaction with patrons. By authentically sharing her culture through the menu offerings, BUDDIES transforms a simple transaction into a shared experience, enriching the community in a way that standardized corporate chains cannot.

Overwhelmed with gratitude from a recent increase in community support, BUDDIES is a testament to the power of community and the vital role small businesses play in fostering a vibrant neighborhood. When we support small businesses, we not only help them thrive but also strengthen the fabric of our communities. The experience of Nieves and Nawrocki is a reminder that we all have a role to play in supporting our local businesses and contributing to the vitality of our communities.

Nieves’ mission to celebrate and share her heritage as a small business owner mirrors the cultural impact of other Puerto Rican tastemakers and their unapologetic celebration of Latinx culture. With this in mind, we styled Nieves and Nawrocki in the adidas para Bad Bunny Ballerina sneaker. Based on the adidas Taekwondo, the Ballerina has flat, yet molded soles, a suede upper, adjustable laces, and a signature details The Ballerina’s vibrant colors and playful design perfectly capture the energy and spirit of Latinx culture.

Moments of Happiness is a celebration of community, heritage, and the entrepreneurial spirit. By pairing the vibrant energy of the adidas para Bad Bunny Ballerina sneaker with the authentic story of BUDDIES COFFEE ROASTERS, we aimed to create a moment that resonated with the heart of Latinx culture. It's a reminder that supporting local businesses, embracing one's roots, and celebrating artistic expression are all interconnected, contributing to a richer, more vibrant community for everyone.
