Introducing the Concepts x Nike SB Surreality Collection

Since its introduction in 2002, Nike SB has evolved from a niche skate and sneaker culture secret to one of the defining elements of new contemporary luxury. “From the beginning Concepts’ partnership with Nike SB has been led by our shared belief in bridging creative worlds through storytelling,” says Deon Point, Concepts Creative Director. “The Lobster Dunk series is not only a hallmark for Concepts, we’re proud to say it part of cementing the incredible legacy of Nike SB.”

While prior iterations of the Lobster Dunk trawled the deep seas for inspiration, Concepts’ latest catch, the Concepts x Nike SB Dunk “Orange Lobster,” adds a surrealist twist to the series, bridging the gap between art, fashion, luxury and unconventional creativity. The design draws color influence from Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali’s playful interpretations of lobsters (that unforgettable phone and his 1969 interpretation of “The Lobsters quadrille” from Alice in Wonderland). The result gives both new impact to the solidified visual language of the Concepts x Nike SB partnership and acknowledges the intermingling of skate and art that is hallmark of Nike SB’s 20-year history.

Extending the collaboration, we are dropping a 130-piece collection of our in-house apparel and accessories. Highlights include an official collaboration with the Dali estate, comprising of T-shirt, coaches jacket, hoodie and bucket hat, along with the introduction of women’s exclusive tailored styles and exclusives from KKco. Collectively, these pieces further elevate the collection’s luxury art motifs. Furthering the aesthetic, associated accessories include trunk-themed cubes, a series of wine-focused kitchen goods, as well as a skate deck with new art from frequent Nike SB partner, Todd Bratrud. A range of New Era Fitted hats to coincide with Boston, New York and Florida teams of all of the lobster franchise colors, and a collaboration with Oakley for the “Lobsterskins” that will launch exclusively at the Miami pop-up. Lastly Concepts has created a range of clothing celebrating it’s 25th anniversary with a color palette using all the past lobster colors in made in the USA fleece and reflective treatments for the lobster splatter detailing.

The Concepts exclusive special packaging is complete with a custom box featuring Dali’s famous ‘Lobster telephone,’ circa 1938. A classic example of a surrealist object, Dali believed that combining two unrelated objects could reveal the secret desires of the unconscious.

In the same overarching theme, Concepts and MEDICOM TOY collaborate for the first time with an orange all over lobster speckle BE@RBRICK set arriving in 100% and 400% figures. Concepts and MEDICOM TOY both founded in 1996, has taken the approach aimed to create collectable pieces of art rather than conventional toys. Thus with the surrealism and combining the most unrelated objects, bear-shaped figured and the lobster splatter, we announce that these limited edition anniversary BE@RBRICK set is only available with our exclusive packaging.

As a nod to celebrating anniversaries and long-standing partnerships each shoe will come with custom bands, silver symbolizing Concepts 25th anniversary, and an emerald color symbolizing the 20th anniversary of Nike SB.
