Introducing the CNCPTS for New Balance 740 ‘Saignée’, designed to pay tribute to a niche process of Champagne making, Rosé de Saignée.
Overall a less common process of production, saignée loosely translates to English as ‘bleeding’. A more labor intensive way to produce rosé Champagne, the process involves mixing in red grapes into the blend during the pressing, resulting in the color from the skins ‘bleeding’ into the Champagne. Key to the process is timing. Depending on the shade required by the winemaker, this could mean checking the color every 30 minutes for up to 24 hours to achieve the desired shade. Many sommeliers agree that a rosé de saignée will offer a far richer tasting experience with more concentrated fruity and terroir characteristics. Standard rosé Champagne, though also very good from many houses, will just provide a touch of red berry fruit expression to what it's brut edition does.
“We were really inspired by the combination of warm and cool tones in the color palette of a bottle of rose Champagne,” said Deon Point, Creative Director for CNCPTS. “The season is filled with celebration and no shortage of Champagne being poured, so for us we wanted to bring that same vibrant spirit and mix of details to the design of the 740.”
The 740 combines familiar elements of 2000s running-inspiration – an open knit mesh upper, segmented midsole, and a streamlined silhouette – with flourishes like two-tone color mesh and angular overlays, that give the 740 a unique visual identity.
CNCPTS for New Balance ‘Saignée’ will be available for purchase at CNCPTS flagship stores in BOS, MIA and NYC, and online at CNCPTS.com on Friday, December 13th, 2024.
