The Wallabee, with its distinctive moccasin construction and considered structural silhouette, has achieved iconic status within the Clarks Originals collection globally. Characterized by its clean lines and understated elegance, this comfortable lace-up design, often rendered in Stead's premium maple suede and finished with the signature crepe sole, has consistently transcended temporal trends. Since its inception in 1968, the Clarks Originals Wallabee™ has occupied a significant cultural position, embraced by figures spanning hip-hop royalty, Britpop luminaries, and discerning individuals worldwide. This second annual Wallabee Day serves as an occasion to acknowledge the enduring impact of a Somerset-born design that has found resonance across diverse cultural landscapes, from the vibrant energy of Jamaican dance halls to the fervent atmosphere of UK football terraces. Forever a distinctive presence, the Wallabee requires no extensive introduction, its enduring status as a household name solidified through decades of consistent cultural relevance.
Following the spirit of Clarks' ongoing ‘Wallabees Their Way’ campaign, CNCPTS Boston is thrilled to announce our celebration of the second annual Clarks Wallabee Day on April 26th, 2025. We're taking the community-building ethos of this global initiative and infusing it with our unique CNCPTS perspective, bringing you an immersive experience that honors the iconic status of this timeless shoe. This year, we're diving deep into the creative spirit that the Wallabee inspires, showcasing its versatility through the lens of local artistry and individual expression.
Central to this editorial endeavor is a collaboration with Jordan Barros (b.1996), a multimedia artist based in Massachusetts. Barros, a graduate of Boston College (‘19) with a degree in studio art, has cultivated a compelling visual language across painting, graphic design, and music. His body of work serves as a poignant homage to familial narratives, Black American cultural identity, the dynamic realm of basketball, and the multifaceted spectrum of human experience. We've had the privilege of stepping into Jordan's personal creative sanctuary – his shed studio – to capture an authentic glimpse into his world. The environment, replete with the textures of his craft – canvases, drop cloths, work surfaces, and artistic implements – forms a rich backdrop for capturing both the visual narrative and nuanced ASMR audio, alongside considered soundbites from the artist himself.
On April 26th, Barros will be present at CNCPTS Boston offering a bespoke flash customization service for guests who purchase from the Wallabee Day footwear collection. Having your pair customized by a local artist transcends a mere purchase; it becomes a tangible piece of Boston's creative spirit, uniquely intertwined with an enduring footwear icon. In addition to the complimentary customization, a selection of specialized refreshments and a refined coffee menu will be available at our café. Creating an immersive experience, the CNCPTS retail space will feature a curated display and visual merchandising presentation dedicated to the Wallabee, contextualizing its historical significance and contemporary relevance. Come celebrate the tradition of this iconic silhouette at CNCPTS Boston on April 26 from 10am-7pm EST.
