Art & Craft: The CNCPTS / PUMA Mostro Fey “Dual Identities” pack

Girlhood is saving up your money for your first luxury piece; a moment to cherish as you remember how good it felt to reward your hard work with a quality, thoughtful purchase. The CNCPTS / PUMA Mostro Fey “Dual Identities” explores this familiar memory through the use of premium materials: the quilted patent leather and suede details of the shoes are textures that are often used on luxury goods. The footwear’s materials pay homage to the DNA of CNCPTS design language. Using a patent leather quilted upper, and rose gold detailing, glossy, vinyl-like finish, all-black patent shoes add a polished, smart energy to an outfit. It’s duo, the color blocked swan grey two-tone, with hot pink and chrome details are a bit more exaggerated in its feminine touch but somehow can still be worn with any color.

To bring this story to life, this friendship duo try on the shoes in these eclectic, yellow and blue fitting rooms, reminiscent of y2k luxury retailers. Weaving pearls and shopping bags with design books and magazines strewn about, a messy fitting room is the sign of a successful shopping trip.

Originally released in 1999, the Mostro has become one of PUMA's most iconic silhouettes. Derived from the Italian word for “monster”, the Mostro’s design was inspired by a sprinting spike from 1968 and a surfing shoe from the 80’s. While there have been a slew of footwear trends popping up in the last few years, two in particular have come charging unapologetically into the zeitgeist: Mary Jane style sneakers and a more complex feminine design language. Puma is at the forefront of this development and the CNCPTS brand and design team was diligent about creating something fashion forward and elevated with this silhouette. The Mostro Fey is an evolution of the original model, blending the signature, bold design with a delicate Mary Jane silhouette for a look that’s entirely new.

The return of the Mary Jane contributes to the overall renaissance of feminine style. With the revival of “coquette” and “ballerina core”, the PUMA Mostro Fey juxtaposes the delicate connotation of the Mary Jane with bold spikes to position it as a strong, feminine streetwear shoe. Capturing strength and femininity through contemporary dance, New York based choreographer and movement director Akira Uchida leads a group of young dancers in this lively session. Finding confidence in teamwork and expressing emotion through movement is reflected in the design of the footwear. “The campaign direction sheds light on our playful approach to editorials and styling, girlcore, and our womens-led storytelling. Our consumer is dynamic, she’s fickle, fluid, hard to catch, a bit dramatic and unapologetic. She has options and we know that, we’re creating product she can collect, not just buy” says CNCPTS Brand & Merchandising Director, Annie Morgan.

The duality of the Mostro Fey lends itself to an array of styling, whether it’s adding an edge to a feminine look or vice versa. Styled with the CNCPTS Womens Spring 2025 collection, the footwear can be seen with a CNCPTS Diamond tank top layered underneath a cardigan for a preppy look. When in doubt, go with a matching set. The CNCPTS corduroy midi skirt and jacket ensemble is a flawless choice for looking put together.

The capsule will be celebrated all week long bringing out the patio spring environment with a custom cafe experience at CNCPTS in Boston, giving away custom treats by Blackbird Doughnuts, a womens owned bakery, and a custom spring drink menu available all week. A celebratory presentation will be held at the Liberty Hotel in Boston showcasing the collection on Thursday, April 3rd. More details will be on CNCPTS social and web pages.
